Brain Correlates of Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness: A Review of Neuroimaging Studies

چکیده
Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD), defined in 2017, is a vestibular disorder characterized by chronic that exacerbated upright posture and exposure to complex visual stimuli. This review focused on recent neuroimaging studies explored the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying PPPD three conditions predated it. The emerging picture local activity functional connectivity multimodal cortical areas are decreased PPPD, which potentially related structural abnormalities (e.g., reductions folding grey-matter volume). Additionally, between prefrontal cortex, regulates attentional emotional responses, primary motor regions appears be increased PPPD. These results complement physiological psychological data identifying hypervigilant postural control dependence patients with supporting hypothesis arises from shifts interactions among visuo-vestibular, sensorimotor, networks overweigh over inputs increase effects of anxiety-related locomotor spatial orientation.

Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness: A Matter of Higher, Central Dysfunction?
OBJECTIVE Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is the most common vestibular disorder in the age group between 30 and 50 years. It is considered to be based on a multisensory maladjustment involving alterations of sensory response pattern including vestibular, visual and motion stimuli. Previous data supported a link between vestibular and pain mechanism. The aim of the study was to ...
متن کاملClinical characteristics of patients with persistent postural-perceptual dizziness.
INTRODUCTION Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness is the dizziness that lasts for over three months with no clinical explanation for its persistence. The patient's motor response pattern presents changes and most patients manifest significant anxiety. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with persistent postural and perceptual dizziness. METHODS statistical ana...
متن کاملPersistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD): a common, characteristic and treatable cause of chronic dizziness.
Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is a newly defined diagnostic syndrome that unifies key features of chronic subjective dizziness, phobic postural vertigo and related disorders. It describes a common chronic dysfunction of the vestibular system and brain that produces persistent dizziness, non-spinning vertigo and/or unsteadiness. The disorder constitutes a long-term maladaptatio...
متن کاملStructural brain correlates of interpersonal violence: Systematic review and voxel-based meta-analysis of neuroimaging studies
Owing to inconsistent nomenclature and results, we have undertaken a label-based review and anatomical likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analysis of studies measuring the quantitative association between regional grey matter (GM) volume and interpersonal violence. Following PRISMA guidelines, we identified studies by searching 3 online databases (Embase, Medline, PsycInfo) and reference lists. T...
